LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The University of Louisville men's tennis team will complete a nine-match home stand against No. 28 Wisconsin (4-3) at 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16 at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
"We barely defeated Wisconsin 4-3 last season," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "Coach Van Emburg has taken this program to new heights. This is the best Wisconsin team I have ever seen and is one of the favorites to win the Big Ten Conference. I am confident in our team, especially Austen Childs and Viktor Maksimcuk. They have both improved so much September and added things to their game."
The Cardinals (6-1), No. 61 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, are coming off of a 5-2 win over No. 55 Middle Tennessee. In that match, Louisville won the doubles point and got singles wins from Viktor Maksimcuk, Simon Childs, Alejandro Calligari and Robert Rotaru. Freshman Austen Childs is ranked 36th in the nation in singles and has posted a 14-5 overall record and is 6-1 at ehe Cards' top seed. The duo of Austen Childs and Simon Childs is a perfect 7-0 as Louisville No. 1 doubles team.
Following the Wisconsin match, the Cards will go on the road to face No. 17 Wake Forest on Feb. 23.
