LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The University of Louisville men's tennis team will host Middle Tennessee (4-4) Thursday, Feb. 14 at 5 p.m. at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
"U of L and Middle Tennessee have developed into a serious rivalry in men's tennis," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "I respect their program very much and they always field a good team. Coach Dale Short, who retired last season, has engineered a program that regularly appears in the NCAA tournament and the top 25. He has handed it over to one of his top players in David McNamara. I have known David since his freshman year playing for MTSU and he has always been an intense competitor. I am sure he will have his team fired up and ready to go."
The Cardinals (6-1), No. 61 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of then-No. 16 Tennessee. Freshmen Austen Childs and Viktor Maksimcuk picked up wins at Nos. 1 and 4 in the loss. Childs is No. 36 in the ITA singles rankings, and carries a 16-5 overall record with a 6-0 tally as the Cards' top seed. Sophomores Kenneth Nordheim and David Simon have combined for a team-best 7-3 doubles record and are 4-1 in dual matches.
Following the Middle Tennessee match, the Cards will conclude a nine-match home stand against No. 28 Wisconsin on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 5 p.m.
