
Dao, Dominguez and Logsdon Selected as 2009 Louisville Baseball Captains

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Seniors John Dao and Gavin Logsdon and junior Chris Dominguez have been selected as team captains for the University of Louisville baseball team for the 2009 season. The selections were voted on by the Cardinal players and coaches.
Dao, a shortstop from Fort Worth, Texas, was third on the team with a .356 batting average in 2008 and was second on the team with 16 stolen bases. He finished with three home runs, 13 doubles, 31 RBI and scored 37 runs in his first season in the Cardinal uniform after two seasons at Northeast Texas Community College.
Dominguez, a third baseman from Miami, Fla., was named to five All-America teams in 2008, was the BIG EAST Co-Player of the Year and BIG EAST Tournament MVP. Overall, he hit .365 with a team-leading 21 home runs and 75 RBI to go with 13 doubles while starting all 62 games for the Cards. He was selected in the fifth round of the 2008 MLB Draft by the Colorado Rockies, but elected to return to Louisville for his junior season. Last week, Dominguez was named First Team Preseason All-America by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
Logsdon, a left-handed pitcher from Caneyville, Ky., is in his fifth year with the program after redshirting as a true freshman. As a junior in the Cards' bullpen, he had a 3.90 ERA and a 1-3 record in 32 1/3 innings of work. He had 23 strike outs while giving up only 11 walks.
The Cards earned their second straight bid to the NCAA Championship in 2008 after winning their first ever BIG EAST Tournament Championship. The Cards finished 41-21 overall last season after being eliminated from the Athens Regional by eventual College World Series runner-up Georgia.
The Cardinals, ranked 20th in the Ping!Baseball 2009 Preseason Poll, will open the 2009 season with a three-game series at SEC foe Florida on Feb. 20-22, while the home-opener is set for Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. ET, against Eastern Kentucky.
