Rotaru Advances to Finals of Louisville Fall Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - University of Louisville senior Robert Rotaru advanced to the in the flight `A' singles championship match. Freshman Adam Donaldson and senior Tim Barnoud made it to the `B' doubles semis while freshman Sumit-Prakash will play in the `B' consolation finals on Sunday.
Rotaru defeated Cleveland State's Phil Orno 7-6, 6-4 to move to the semifinals, where he outlasted Brian Livington 2-6, 7-6, 6-4. Rotaru will face Indiana's Santiago Gruter in Sunday's championship match.
Also in the `A' quarterfinals, sophomore Viktor Maksimcuk fell to Xavier's Doug Matthews 6-4, 6-2 and sophomore Alejandro Calligari was edged by Toledo's Sven Burus 6-7, 6-3, 6-1.
Andrew Carter and Tim Barnoud both dropped their `B' quarterfinal matches. Carter fell 7-5, 6-4 to Lander's Henrik Willers and Barnoud lost 6-4, 6-4 to Eastern Illinois' Vuk Milicevic.
In the `B' backdraw, Sumit-Prakash Gupta beat Eastern Illinois' Matyas Hilgert 6-2, 6-0 and UT-Martin's Alfredo Krywacz 6-4, 6-3.
Adam Donaldson picked up a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Xavier's Mike Diecuic, but fell to Cleveland State's Chris Klepatz 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 in the `C' semifinals.
"All of the participants were tested by fatigue and dehydration today," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "Our players have played a lot of matches in the last eight days and were running on fumes. They were playing on heart and mental toughness. Robert Rotaru played with leg cramps for the last hour and a half of his match and found a way to win - which is what we expect from U of L seniors. I am especially proud of his effort. Tim Barnoud and Adam Donaldson are looking good in their quest for their first doubles title."
