LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The University of Louisville men's tennis team will host Morehead State (0-1) at noon and Murray State (0-0) at 6 p.m. in a doubleheader Friday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
The Cardinals, No. 58 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, are coming off of a 6-1 win over Northwestern last Friday. Austen Childs, Simon Childs, David Simon, Viktor Maksimcuk and Robert Rotaru picked up singles wins and the Cards swept the doubles matches. Freshman Austen Childs is No. 36 in the ITA singles rankings, and carries an 11-5 record. Fellow freshman Alejandro Calligari has a 11-3 overall record to share the team lead.
"It's obvious that the new players have been carrying this team since September," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "Outside of sophomore David Simon, they have achieved the best wins. But I sincerely feel, that the returning players will show up in a big way this weekend. They have been preparing with a great sense of purpose and an even greater understanding of team dual matches then the newcomers. The newcomers comprise one of the most talented freshman classes in the country, but the returners know what to expect and the energy level that we need to be successful. I have a lot of confidence in them."
The Cardinals will be back in action against BIG EAST foe Marquette Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
