University of Louisville head coach Rex Ecarma has announced that Tye Myers has joined the Cardinal tennis team and will begin play in January.
The sophomore transfer from Ouachita Baptist compiled an 8-7 singles record and was ranked as high as No. 44 in the 2006 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II preseason rankings. As a senior in high school, Myers was one of the top-three ranked players in Florida and was among the top 30 in the nation. He played for the Junior Davis Cup for Florida, won the Busch Florida Open in 2004
"Tye Myers is a very solid tennis player," said Ecarma. "He hits every shot in tennis correctly from a fundamental standpoint. He comes to us as a transfer which only helps our team because he is older than the average incoming player as well as more mature. Because his game is so complete, he should help the team in singles and doubles. We are pushing him really hard in every aspect to get him ready for a high level national schedule. He is responding to the challenge. Tye's future is bright in Cardinal Tennis."
The Cards open spring dual match play on January 18 against Northwestern at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center at 5 p.m.
