
Men's Tennis Off to Strong Start at Southern Intercollegiate

Sept. 21, 2007 The University of Louisville men's tennis team is off to a strong start at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships, picking up seven singles wins on Friday.
Posting victories for the Cardinals were: freshmen Austen Childs and Alejandro Calligari, sophomores James McArthur, Tim Barnoud and Morten Sivertsen and junior Pablo Camacho.
Austen Childs defeated Florida State's Clint Bowles 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-2 in Division I Singles. In Division II singles, McArthur defeated Mississippi State's Pjotr Necajevs 4-6, 6-3, 7-6(4), Calligari beat Winthrop's Alejandro Portugal 5-7, 6-4, 6-0.
Camacho posted a 1-6, 7-5, 7-5 win over Spencer Heflin of Memphis in Division III singles, while Barnoud topped USF's William Sousa 6-3, 6-2. Sivertsen posted two wins, topping East Tennessee State's Alex Appel 6-0, 2-0, ret., and defeateing Mercer's Chapman Mitchell 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.
"The team is following a good opening weekend with a solid showing at the Southern Intercollegiate Invitational," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "With five singles players in the third round of their respective divisions and three doubles teams in the second round. To be the best, you've got to play them and I think our guys are doing that."
