Men's Tennis Concludes Play at the Vanderbilt Invitational

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The University of Louisville men's tennis team completed its first weekend of play at the Vanderbilt Invitational Saturday afternoon.
"Our players had another solid day with a great effort," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "We played well against Tennessee and Vanderbilt - two SEC schools. We had a strong showing on the weekend with Alejandro Calligari winning two matches, Robert Rotaru finished winning four of his first five matches. Austen Childs defeated two ranked players. For a young team in the first weekend of a new season, we showed we could compete well with two teams that should start the year in the top 15."
In singles action Robert Rotaru defeated Vandy's Jeremy Tweedt 6-3, 7-5 in Group `B' of the White Division. Freshman Austen Childs picked up a 6-3, 7-6 win over No. 69 Davey Sandgren in Group `A' of the Gold Division - marking his second win over a ranked player on the weekend after defeating No. 29 Ryan Preston of Vanderbilt.
Tennessee's Chris Racz defeated James McArthur 6-4, 7-5 in Group `A' of the Gray Division.
In round robin play, Louisville sophomore Tim Barnoud defeated Vandy's James Move 8-5.
Freshman Alejandro Calligari topped Tennessee's William Lang 6-3, 7-6 in Group `B' of the Black Division to close out singles play.
In doubles action, Tennessee's Racz and Brewer defeated Austen Childs and James McArthur 8-3 while the team of Sandgren and Lang beat Simon Childs and Calligari 8-4. Vanderbilt's Paul and Pulido topped Ben Clos Camacho 8-6.
The Cardinals are back in action next weekend at the Baylor Invitational and the Southern Intercollegiates.
