The University of Louisville volleyball team begins its season this weekend at the Louisville Marriott East Invitational which will feature a field that includes Memphis, Coastal Carolina and Tennessee Tech.
The Cardinals, under the direction of head coach Leonid Yelin will open tonight with a matchup with former conference rival Memphis at 7:30. Coastal Carolina and Tennessee Tech will play the early game at 5 p.m. in newly refurbished Cardinal Arena. There are four matches scheduled for Saturday with the Cards taking on Coastal Carolina at 1 p.m. amd Tennessee Tech at 7:30 p.m.
"Our team goal is always to be better than we have been in the past," said Yelin. "Last year's team had to build on a mix of young athleticism and senior experience and it took a bit of time to learn to play with each other and develop a chemistry. Last year's underclassmen, who were one of my most athletic class ever, have now gained playing experience and to compete with each other is now second nature to them."
