LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville men's tennis coach Rex Ecarma has announced that John Boetsch has joined the coaching staff. He replaces former assistant Mark Beckham, who is now the head coach of Louisville's women's tennis team.
"I looked at applications of 45 quality coaches and did a lot of research especially by talking to many of the elite college coaches in the country," said Ecarma. "I decided on John Boetsch, who was a standout player at Clemson University and captain of their 2004 team that made it to the elite eight in the NCAA Tournament. He is a prodigy of one of the legendary coaches in the sport who has authored some of the best books in coaching tennis."
Boetsch is a 2004 graduate of Clemson University, where he was a two-time co-captain and helped lead the Tigers to the NCAA quarterfinals in 2004. As a junior, Boetsch was an All-Atlantic Coast Conference first team member. Boetsch spent the first two years of his college career at Erskine College in Due West, S.C., where he was a team co-captain in 2002 and garnered all-Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference honors in 2001 and 2002. The Fort Mill, S.C. native earned his bachelor's degree in Business Marketing from Clemson in 2004.
He received his USPTR professional certification in 2006 and was a staff professional at the Charlotte Tennis Academy, a assistant professional at the Barclay Downs Swim and Racquet Club and the head tennis professional at the Palmetto Tennis Center.
"John has been an overachiever throughout his career and has a reputation of being a tireless worker," said Ecarma. "Coach Boetsch reminds me so much of one of my former players, Jeremy Clark, who was the captain of our successful 2006 team. John has big shoes to fill in following Mark Beckham. He is humble, hungry and has a tremendous passion for college tennis."
Boetsch and his wife, Catherine, married in January, 2006 and have a four month old son, Anderson.
