
Javelet Earns First Team Academic All-America Honors

University of Louisville field hockey player Jessica Javelet has been named to the 2007 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America First Team. She becomes U of L's only three-time Academic All-American.
Javelet, a Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. native, graduated with a 4.0 cumulative GPA in marketing. In addition to this year's selection, she also earned first team honors as a junior and second team honors as a sophomore to become Louisville's first three-time Academic All-American.
She produced a stellar career at U of L, becoming the school's most prolific scorer and one of the most highly decorated players in Cardinal history. She holds the Louisville career records for goals (69), assists (38) and points (176) and the single season marks for goals (30), assists (14) and points (74). The three-time National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-American has also been named to the U.S. Field Hockey National Developmental Team.
Javelet was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year in 2006, when she helped lead the Cardinals to a share of the BIG EAST regular season title. As a junior, Javelet was the league's Co-Offensive Player of the Year. She received All-BIG EAST First Team accolades in both '05 and '06. Additionally, the NFHCA named Javelet an All-West Region First Team performer for three straight seasons from '04-06.
In addition to her achievements on the field, the marketing major has also earned several accolades for her classroom and extracurricular accomplishments. She was named the 2006-07 BIG EAST Aeropostale Female Scholar Athlete of the Year and earned an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. She is also a four-time member of the National Field Hockey Coaches Association National Academic Squad.
The Academic All-America Teams program honors 816 male and female student-athletes annually who have succeeded at the highest level on the playing field and in the classroom. Individuals are selected through voting by CoSIDA (the College Sports Information Directors of America), a 2,000 member organization consisting of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.
To be eligible, a student-athletes must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
