INDIANAPOLIS-- - University of Louisville seniors Damar Johnson and Slavko Radman have been selected as one of 32 teams to compete in the 2007 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championships. The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 23-28 at Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Georgia, hosted by the University of Georgia, following the conclusion of the team championship (May 17-22).
Johnson (Steer Town, Jamaica) is a four-time all-conference selection. He posted a 19-15 overall record and was 14-9 playing mostly at No. 2 for the Cardinals this year.
Radman (Split, Croatia) earned all conference honors in each of his three seasons at U of L. Radman, who posted a 20-11 overall record and a 14-7 mark as the Cards' top seed, is currently No. 85 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association singles rankings, and reached as high as No. 29 earlier this season.
Johnson and Radman earned the BIG EAST Conference automatic bid as the league's highest ranked doubles team. They are currently No. 18 in the ITA doubles rankings and earned the school's highest ranking of No. 7 earlier this season. The duo has posted an 18-8 overall record including a 9-5 mark as the Cards' top-seed this season. Johnson and Radman earned All-BIG EAST honors after going 2-1 in the conference tournament.
They become only the second doubles team in program history to be selected for the NCAA doubles championship, following in the footsteps of 2006 selections Jeremy Clark and Jakob Gustafsson.
"It is fitting that two great players like Damar Johnson and Slavko Radman end their careers at the NCAA championships," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "This will be the first individual NCAA championship for Damar, even though he has been ranked throughout his career. Slavko Radman becomes the first U of L player to have competed in the team, singles and doubles championship. I am optimistic that Damar and Slavko can do well."
The Cardinals finished the 2007 season with a 10-15 overall record and were second in the BIG EAST Conference Championship.
