LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - University of Louisville men's tennis coach Rex Ecarma has announced that Simon Childs has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to join the Cardinals in the 2007-08 season.
Childs joins U of L from Hillington, England. He has had a great deal of success in junior play, winning the IPP Finland Junior Open and advancing to the semifinals of the Denmark and Sweden ITF Championships. He was also a quarterfinalist in the Casablanca Junior Cup and the Valencia, Spain ITF Championship.
"With outgoing stars Damar Johnson and Slavko Radman graduation, we needed to have a freshman with the potential to succeed right away at the national level," said Ecarma. "I think we found that potential in Simon Childs. He is very experienced in world-class competition and can handle the pressure against top collegiate players. One of the most important things about Simon and that he is an accomplished doubles player and we will need that because our best two doubles players are graduating. I believe Simon will flourish here at U of L."
The Cardinals finished the 2007 season with a 10-15 overall record and were second in the BIG EAST Conference Championship.
