Junior Derek Fathauer shot 7-under par as the University of Louisville men's golf team struggled to an 11th-place finsh at the Linger Longer Invitational at the Oconee Course at the Reynolds Plantation. The Cardinals, who begin play at NCAA Central Regional Championships on Thursday, suffered its lowest finish of the season.
The Cardinals shot 287-287-302=876 for the tournament. They were in seventh place after the first two rounds, but shot 302 in the third round to fall out of contention.
Fathauer led the Cardinals with a seven-under par total of 209. He carded a five-under par 67 in the first round and followed that with a pair of 71s. He finished with a tie for 3rd overall - the fifth top three finish this season. He finished three shots behind Chris Kirk of Georgia.
Junior Daryl Fathauer, who was coming off a medalist win at the BIG EAST Championships, tied with sophomore Adam Hadwin for 41st place by shooting 221.
Juniors Adam Rainaud and Andrew Freeman each shot 229 to finish in a tie 64th.
The Cardinals begin play at NCAA Central Regional Thursday in DeKalb, Ill.
