
Men's Golf Leads NCAA Central Regional

DEKALB, Ill. - - Junior Derek Fathauer fired a 2-under par 70 to pace the University of Louisville men's golf team to a lead after the first day of the NCAA Central Regionals at the par 72, 7,214 yard Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill.
Louisville is one of 27 teams at the regional, one of three NCAA regionals being played today through Saturday. The top 10 teams will advance to play for the national championship at the May 30-June 2 NCAA finals.
The fifth-seeded Cardinals shot 294 on the day and lead by nine strokes over 15th-seeded Wisconsin and Texas. Tulsa is 11 shots back and defending champion Oklahoma State is 12 strokes in back of the Cardinals.
Derek birdied the first two holes of the day and had six on the day to shoot a 70. He's currently the leader in the clubhouse after first round action and a shot ahead of four other players, including his twin brother.
Daryl Fathauer fired a 71 and is in a three-way tie with Brett Meyers of Tulsa and Dawie Van Der Walt of Lamar.
Sophomore Adam Hadwin shot a 2-over par 74 and junior Adam Rainaud was a 7-over par 79. Junior Andrew Freeman fired an 85. Only the top four scores figure into the team totals.
The second round will begin at 7:00 a.m. on Friday morning.
