
Softball Tops Princeton 5-0

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - - Senior shortstop Courtney Moore had a home run and four RBI and sophomore Kassie Stanfill tossed a complete game shutout as the University of Louisville softball team defeated Princeton 5-0 in the Maryland Terrapin Softball Invitational.
"I'm happy with our defense," said U of L head coach Sandy Pearsall. "We need to make better adjustments offensively and put the ball in play."
The Cards jumped to a 1-0 lead in the first when Courtney Moore drew a two-out walk and scored on Melissa Roth's double.
Louisville tacked on two more runs in the fourth when Skye Mille led off the frame with a walk, and Audrey Rendon singled. Courtney Moore's two-run double made it a 3-0 game.
The Cardinals increased their lead to 5-0 in the sixth when Rendon reached on an error and Moore delivered a two-run shot over the centerfield fence.
Stanfill (4-2) went the distance, scattering two hits and striking out five, she also went 2 for 4 at the plate. Moore finished 2 for 3 with a home run, four RBI and two runs.
Kristen Schaus (1-2) took the loss, allowing three earned runs on five hits and striking out six in 5.0 innings. Stephanie Steel broke up Stanfill's bid for a perfect game in the fourth with a double. Collette Abbot recorded the Tigers other hit in the game.
The Cardinals (7-8) will play Maryland at approximately 7 p.m. Friday night.
