
Softball Rolls Over Central Connecticut 12-0

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Courtney Moore went 3 for 3 with two home runs and four RBI as the University of Louisville softball team defeated Central Connecticut 12-0 in five innings Saturday in the Maryland Terrapin Softball Invitational. Moore now owns the school's career record with 141 RBI.
"I was happy to see the team come out and hit the ball like they know how," said U of L head coach Sandy Pearsall. "I was pleased with the performance of Kristen Wadwell and our defensive effort as well."
The Cards used five hits and three errors to jump to a 7-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Audrey Rendon reached on a two base error to start the game and scored on Candi Hicks' double of f the centerfield wall. Courtney Moore stepped up to the plate and delivered a two-run shot over the centerfield wall to make it a 3-0 game. Brooke McCrain, Kristen Wadwell and Missy Vascil singled to set up Kristi Cunningham's three-run triple. A Rhode Island error sent Cunningham home for the 7-0 score.
Moore and Melissa Roth registered back-to-back solo home runs to start the second inning, increasing the lead to 9-0.
The Cards tacked on three more runs in the third when Rendon led off with a single and scored on Hick's base hit. Moore delivered her third hit of the game and crossed the plate on Roth's single.
Kristen Wadwell (1-0) picked up her first win, scattering two hits and striking out five in 5.0 innings. The Cards pounded out 13 hits in the game, led by Moore's 3 for 3, three run, four RBI performance. Wadwell finished 2 for 2 with a run and Hicks went 2 for 3 with two runs and one RBI.
Sara Budrick (0-1) took the loss, allowing seven runs, five earned on five hits. Rachel Brenneman gave up five earned runs on seven hits in 1.1 innings. Samantha Keltos held the Cards to one hit in 2.0 innings. Melissa Pelletier had both hits for Central Connecticut.
U of L (10-8) will face Princeton in the championship game Sunday at 1 p.m.
