The University of Louisville's Damar Johnson and Slavko Radman are ranked seventh in the Fila Collegiate Tennis Doubles Rankings administered by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. It marks the highest doubles ranking in Cardinal tennis history. Johnson and Radman jumped 17 spots from their previous ranking of 24. Radman vaulted 31 spots to No. 40 in the singles rankings.
"Slavko and Damar have achieved the highest ranking of any doubles teams in U of L history and that speaks volumes due to the fact that we have had many nationally ranked doubles teams over the years," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "This ranking puts them among the elite in the sport.
Johnson, a senior from Steer Town, Jamaica, and Radman, a senior from Split, Croatia, have teamed for a 14-5 overall record and are 5-2 as the Cards' top seed. They began the season at No. 26 in the preseason rankings and were No. 24 in the Jan. 9 rankings. Radman has posted a 13-6 overall mark and is 7-2 as the Cards' No. 1 player.
"They have both embraced our doubles teachings and have benefited from playing the big events last semester," said Ecarma. "With our incredibly tough schedule, we hope to play them against some of the other top doubles teams so they have a chance to improve this ranking. Both Slavko and Damar have meant so much to the program and provideleadership to all the new players on the team. They are keeping up the successful legacy that last year's senior class portrayed so well. The next step for them is to help their inexperienced teammates become clutch performers under pressure like they are. I am so extremely happy for Damar and Slavko because they know how much I am trying to make their senior year one they will never forget."
The Cardinals, No. 52 in the ITA team rankings, will continue their eight-match road swing at No. 28 Wake Forest on Saturday, Feb. 24 and NC State on Sunday, Feb. 25.
