
Softball Falls to Illinois State 6-1

MIAMI, Fla. - - The University of Louisville softball team fell to Illinois State 6-1 Saturday in the Florida International Diamond Fun & Sun Classic.
The Cards jumped on the scoreboard 1-0 in the first inning. Audrey Rendon led off the game with a single through the right side, took second on Candi Hicks' sacrifice bunt and scored when Melissa Roth reached on an error.
The Redbirds answered in the home half of the inning when Tiffany Prager doubled and scored on a double by Kelsey Warning to knot the game at 1-1.
Illinois State used two walks scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 6-1 lead. Kara Nelson singled, Amber Smith drew a two-out walk and Kelsey Warning was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Shannon Nicholson drew a walk to push the winning run across the plate. Jessie Buker blasted a two-run double. Casey Gorrell's two-run single made it a 6-1 game.
The Cards had five hits in the game and were led at the plate by Rendon who went 2 for 4. Starter Catherine Bishop (0-3) took the loss, allowing five earned runs on five hits and striking out six in 4.2 innings. Kassie Stanfill allowed one earned run on four hits in 1.1 innings of relief.
Illinois State's Stacy Birk (3-0) got the win, holding the Cards scoreless and giving up one hit in three innings.
Louisville (0-3) will take on Florida International Saturday at 5 p.m.
