
Swimming and Diving Tipped by Kentucky

The University of Louisville swimming and diving team was swept by the visiting University of Kentucky Wildcats. The UK men won 188-112 and the women won 185-115 in a spirited meet with before a packed house Saturday afternoon at the Ralph Wright Natatorium.
"I am very happy with how the team swam today," said Arthur Albiero, U of L head coach. "We fought hard and kept fighting until the end. We are in the middle of our heavy training, so I am very happy with the way we performed today. We fell short today but our progress was loud and clear. We had some great highlights."
Leslie VanWinkle paced all Cardinal scorers with wins in the 200-free, 500-free and the 200-IM. Sophomore Anna Dishuck had a pair of wins with firsts in the 100-breast and the 200-breast. Shane Lichtenberg was the top scorer for the men with a win in the 1000-free and finished second in the 500-free. Adam Madarassy won the 200-fly and was second in the 100-fly.
In the 200-medley relay, for the women Anna Dishuck has a strong final leg to finish second for the Cardinals in 1:45.31. For the men, the team of Carlos Van Isschot, Vali Preda, Adam Madarassy and Andrei Radzionau finished second in 1:31.14 with the team of Andrei Teudean, Chris Lindauer, Sergiu Daghid and Jordan Wessels adding points with a third place finish.
In the 1000-free, U of L's Amanda Henleben finished second with a time of 10:22.02. Laura Clark added points with a fifth place finish in 10:58.69. In the men's race, Shane Lichtenberg finished first in 9:32.10, while Anthony Mason finished fifth.
For the 200-free, Leslie VanWinkle came from back in the pack to surge to first at 15206 Liz Halet held off the Cats for a second at 1:53.08. For the men, Kentucky's Tyler Reed finished first in 1:40.09 edging the Card's Andrei Radzionau who finished second in 1:40.53.
Kentucky swept the top two spots in the women's 100-back led by winner Jenna Newsome with a time of 58.08. Whitney Campbell was in pursuit for third at 58.50 and Nicole Cindric in fourth at 58.66 in a hotly contested finish. In the men's 100-back, Carlos Van Isschot finished second in 51.01 and Andrei Teudean was third with a time of 52.37.
In the 100-breast, for the women, Anna Dishuck powered to the victory in 1:04.23 and teammate Johanna Nyysti held on for fourth at 1:06.16. In the men's race, Kentucky's Will Vietti finished first with Louisville's Vali Preda a close second in 56.29. Chris Lindauer and Sergiu Daghid finished third and fourth and respectively.
In the 200-fly, Jenny Schimenti finished third a 2:07.04 as the top Cardinal swimmer in that event. Wildcat Megan Pulskamp won the event in 2:03.57. In the men's 200 fly, Cardinal swimmers Adam Madarassy battled to a first place finish in 1:49.42 and teammate Rafal Kuchta finished second in 1:50.28.
In the women's 50-free, U of L's Nicole Landisch was the top Card in 23:58 with Liz Halet added a point with a fifth in 24.21. Kentucky swept the top three spots for the men with Andrei Radzionau finishing fourth in 21.05 and Chris Lindauer scoring with a fifth in 21.36.
On the 1-meter board, McKenzie Long was the top Cardinal diver with a score of 247.05, Sarah Sandroni was fourth with 243.83 and Liz O'Sullivan scored with a fifth place finish. For the men, Kentucky took the top two spots with Justin Smith taking honors with 315.30. U of L's Robbie Lewis was third, posting a score of 289.20.
On the 3-meter board, Stephen Andrews scored a win for the Cats with a score of 351.00. Robbie Lewis was the top Cardinal at 323.48. Jessica Snowden took top honors for Kentucky with a score of 313.13. U of L's McKenzie Long was the top Cardinal with a score of 246.68.
In the 100-free, Liz Halet finished second with teammate Whitney Campbell touching third in 52.11 and 52.47 respectively. For the men, U of L's Andrei Radzionau was edged by UK's Eric McGinnis. Carlos Van Isschot added a point with a fifth place finish.
For the 200-back, Karen Criss was just out-touched for second with a time of 2:09.64. Jenna Newsome was the winner for UK at 2:05.80. In the men's race, UK's Shane Eliason was first in 1:49.42. Andrei Teudean finished second for the Cards in 1:52.23 and Hal Graft was fourth in 1:56.28.
In the 200-breast, Anna Dishuck won her second event of the day finishing in 2:19.26. Leigh Smith and Johanna Nyysti added points for the Lady Cards finishing third and fourth respectively. In the men's race, Vali Preda, Sergiu Daghid and Jordan Wessels lead the charge for the Cardinals finishing second, third and fourth to Kentucky's Will Vietti who won the event in 2:03.32.
In the 500-free, Leslie VanWinkle came from behind to win her second event of the day in 5:01.36. Amanda Henleben added to the Cardinal cause with a fifth place finish. Shane Lichtenberg powered to his second win of the day touching in 4:36.45. Rafal Kuchta finished third in 4:40.86.
In the 100-fly, UK's Heather Bradford scored top points with a win at 55.27. U of L's Nicole Landisch was the top finisher for the Cardinals with a third in 56.97. Jenny Schimenti added a point for fifth at 59.31. For the men, Adam Madarassy was just edged by Warren Grobbelaar, who won in 49.42. Adam turned in a time of 49.87.
In the 200-IM, Leslie VanWinkle got her third win of the day with a swim of 2:05.97. For the men, U of L's Luke Wakefield got to the wall second in a time of 1:55.48 for the Cardinals behind UK's Shane Eliason, who won in 1:52.17.
In the final event, 400-free relay the Louisville foursome of Anna Dishuck, Nicole Landisch, Liz Halet and Whitney Campbell finished second in 3:29.50. For the men, Carlos Van Isschot, Chris Lindauer, Jordan Wessels and Adam Madarassy also finished second in 3:05.73.
