ATLANTA - The University of Louisville men's tennis team picked up four singles wins and a doubles victory on the first day of the Georgia Tech Invitational Friday.
"Kenneth Nordheim showed a lot of guts today, fighting back from one set down to win in three sets, " said assistant coach John Boetsch. "Overall, on the day, I thought we fought hard in every match and left it all on the court"
In the `A' singles division, sophomore Kenneth Nordheim defeated Georgia Tech's Scott Blackmon 6-7, 7-6 (4), 6-0, but fell 6-7(2), 7-6(4), 6-0 to Tennessee's J. Tweet. Middle Tennessee's R. Cowden defeated Louisville junior Robert Rotaru 7-5, 6-3. James McArthur fell 6-1, 6-2 to Georgia State's N. Podkrajsek 6-1, 6-2 and Georgia Tech's R. Smith 6-3, 6-3.
In the `B' division, sophomore Tim Barnoud picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win over Southern Miss' A. Arendt. Aophomore Ben Clos topped Tennessee's W. Lang 6-2, 6-1, but fell to Vanderbilt's A. Zotov 6-1, 6-2 in the second round. Georgia Tech's D. Kenny defeated sophomore Morten Sivertsen 6-3, 6-2, but Sivertsen came back to beat Georgia State's A. Alvarado 6-2, 6-2 in the consolation draw. Junior Pablo Camacho lost the Vandy's S. Lieberman 6-4, 6-1 and Georgia Tech's G. Gvelesiani 6-4, 6-0.
The doubles team of McArthur and Robert Rotaru defeated Southern Miss' Machuca and Machuca 8-0 in the `B' doubles division. Nordheim and Sivertsen lost to Auburn's Petropolious and Tsyrenov 8-5 while Camacho and Clos fell 8-6 to Vandy's Baker and Dufaux.
