MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - - Freshman Austen Childs advanced to the round of 16, but fell 6-2, 6-1 to Wisconsin's Nolan Polley as the University of Louisville men's tennis team closed play at the Midwest Regional tournament.
Childs defeated Michigan State's Nick Rinks 7-5, 6-7, 7-5 in the first round and Notre Dame's Andrew Roth 6-3, 6-2 in the round of 32.
Also in the Open Singles draw, Michigan State's John Allare topped junior Robert Rotaru 6-4, 6-4, Indiana's Thomas Richter beat David Simon 6-4, 6-2; Notre Dame's Sherra Parbhu picked up a 6-2, 7-6 win over freshman Viktor Maksimcuk.
In doubles action, Purdue's Branko Kuzmanovic and Patrick Rose defeated Rotaru and Childs 8-6 and Ohio State's team of Bryan Koniecko and Steven Moneke topped Louisville sophomores Kenneth Nordheim and David Simon 8-2.
