
Swimming and Diving Fall to Tennessee

The University of Louisville swimming and diving team fell to Tennessee in the season opener Saturday in the Ralph Wright Natatorium. The women were beaten 207-93 and the men were edged 165-134.
"It was a very good start to our season," said U of L head coach Arthur Albiero. "As our first meet, we learned a lot about our young team today. The team really responded to a good challenge today and this bodes well for the season. We won our fair share of events and it was a good step for us in the progression of the program."
U of L had wins from newcomers Andrei Radzionau in the 200-free and Nicole Landisch in the 50-free. Returners Anna Dishuck won the 200-breast and Adam Madarassy won the 100-fly.
In the 200-medley relay, U of L foursome of Karen Criss, Johanna Nyysti, Nicole Landisch and Anna Dishuck rallied to finish second to gain the Cardinals valuable relay points. For the men, the team of Carlos Van Isschot, Vali Preda, Adam Madarassy and Andrei Radzionau finished second 1:31.38.
In the women's 1000-free, Tennessee swept the top three spots with U of L's Amanda Henleben finished fourth with a time of 10:28.71. Aleksa Akerfelds won the event for the Vols.
For the men in the 1000-free, Shane Lichtenberg had the lead going into the final fifty and the longest race of the meet turned into a sprint as the freshman posted a win in his first collegiate swim with a time of 9.28.49. Anthony Mason finished fifth for the Cards.
In the women's 200-free, Liz Halet finished fourth with a time of 1:53.80 as the top finisher. Christine Magnuson won the event for the Vols. For the men, Andrei Radzionau, finished first in the 1:40.54 and Jordan Wessels was second 1:42.22.
In the 100-back, Nicole Cindric surged to third place with a time of 59.06 and Karen Criss touched fourth at 59.78. Tricia Weaner took the event for the Volunteers with a time of 57.03. For the men, Carlos Van Isschot was edged at 51.46 by winner Nolan Morrel, Andrei Teudean finished third at 51.79.
In the 100-breast, Anna Dishuck was fourth at 1:05.96 as the top finisher for the Cardinals. UT's Michele King took first at 1:03.14. For the men, Vali Preda was second at 56.72 to with Sergei Daghid touching fifth with a time of 58.96.
In the 200-fly, Carly Mathes took the race for Tennessee at 2:30.77. As the top Cardinal, Jenny Schimenti finished fourth with a time of 2:08.17 with teammate Abby Miller right behind her in fifth at 2:08.33. For the men, Adam Madarassy led at the halfway point, but was edged at the end by UT's Michael Wolfe and finished second at 1:49.89. U of L's Rafal Kuchta touched third at 1:54.00.
In the 50-free, freshman Nicole Landisch won the race at 23.62 in her debut as a Card with Whitney Campbell fourth for the Cardinals. U of L's Andrei Radzionau was second at 20.88 while Chris Lindauer was fourth at 21.47.
In the 100-free, Liz Hallet was second turning in a time of 52.15 and Whitney was third at 52.50. Tennessee's Carly Mathes was first. For the men, Andrei Razionau was third with at time of 45.72. Carlos Van Isschot came in fourth at 46.88.
In the 200-back, Nicole Cindric was the best U of L finisher at second with a time of 2:06.44 with Karen Criss touching fifth at 2:11.04. Tennessee's Aleksa Akerfelds was the winner at 2:04.87. For the men, Andrei Teudean was second at 1:52.77 to UT's Michael Wolfe and Hal Graft in hot pursuit for third at 1:55.94.
In the 200-breast, U of L's Anna Dishuck won the event at 2:19.55 holding off UT's Bryttany Curran. For the men, UT's Brad Craig touched first with Vali Preda finishing second at 2:04.56 with teammate Jordan Wessels touching fourth at 2:08.07.
In the 500-free, freshman Sarah Andrews finished fifth as the top Cardinal swimmer in the event. UT swept the top four spots led by winner Michele King at 4:55.01. For the men, Shane Lichtenberg was the top Cardinal at third with a time of 4:41.69.
In the women's 100-free UT's Christine Magnuson beat the field at 54.80 with Nicole Landisch in her wake for second. Fellow frosh Sarah Andrews was third. For the men, Adam Madarassy set a pool record with his win at the time of 50.03. Andrei Teudean picked up points with a fourth place at 53.02.
For the Divers, in the 3-meter board McKenzie Long placed third with a score of 252.83 as did Robbie Lewis who posted a scored of 316.51. For the 1-meter, Robbie Lewis moved up to second with a score of 302.55. McKenzie Long was third with 248.86 total.
