
Men's Tennis Completes First Day of Virginia Fall Invitational

Four members of the University of Louisville men's tennis team pick up wins in the main draw of the 2006 Virginia Fall Invitational Friday. Sophomore Robert Rotaru and freshmen Horatiu Oltean, David Simon and Chris Herrlinger advance to Saturday's second round of play. The Virginia Fall Invitational features 22 teams including: Alabama, Brown, Charlotte, Duke George Washington, Harvard, Maryland, Memphis, North Carolina State, Old Dominion, Pennsylvania, Radford, Stetson, Virginia Commonwealth, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Western Michigan, William & Mary, Winthrop and Yale.
Oltean defeated Virginia's Lee Singer 7-6(1), 6-4 in the Red Singles division. Simon fell 6-2 in the first set, but went on to beat Alabama's Mathieu Thibaudeau 6-2, 6-4 in the Green division. Rotaru topped Texas Putra of Memphis 6-4, 6-3 in the Yellow division. Herrlinger took down William & Mary's Alex Zuck 7-5, 7-6(3) in the Black division.
Louisville senior Damar Johnson battled Virginia's Marko Miklo to three sets before falling 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 in the Blue Singles division. Fellow senior Slavko Radman, #29 in the ITA preseason rankings lost to #43 Treat Huey 6-2, 6-0 in the Orange division.
