
Volleyball Hosts Competitive Slate at Classic

The No. 12-ranked University of Louisville volleyball team has a full slate as a highly competitive tournament gets underway Friday evening at Cardinal Arena.
U of L plays host to No. 18-ranked and undefeated Arizona and Atlantic 10 powerhouse Dayton, 3-0. The Flyers have won three consecutive league titles since 2003. Regional rival Tennessee Tech rounds out the field of the U of L Courtyard by Marriott Airport East Classic.
U of L, 2-1, will face Dayton at 7:30 p.m. on Friday in a televised match. WHAS-TV will broadcast this match on a delayed basis and the air time has not yet been decided. Last weekend, U of L placed two players on the All-Hampton Inn Downtown Classic, with Stephanie Marsh and Rui Liu garnering honors. U of L is led by sophomore Tatyana Kolesnikova who averaged 2.7 kills per game. Defensively, the Cards look to Liu on the block. She is averaging 1.73 per game. The Flyers have swept their first three opponents at the Dayton Flyer Classic coming into this weekend. They are led by Louisville transfer Nicole Bateman, who leads her team in kills per game at 3.99.
Arizona claimed the title of the Four Points Sheraton Arizona Invitational with sweeps of Siena (30-21, 30-25, 30-27) and Northern Colorado (30-15, 30-15, 30-18), and a four-game win over San Francisco (32-30, 30-, 24-30, 30-25). Sophomore Brooke Buringrud was named tournament MVP after averaging 3.10 kills, 2.80 digs and 0.70 service aces. Freshman Whitney Dosty and junior Dominique Lamb were also named to the all-tournament team. Dosty averaged 3.50 kills, 0.90 digs and 0.80 blocks, while Lamb averaged 2.20 kills, 1.60 blocks, 0.50 digs and 0.40 service aces.
Tennessee Tech is 1-2 and is led by freshman Amanda Lindgren, who averages 2.78 kills and recorded four aces.
