The University of Louisville volleyball team has announced the Cardinal schedule for 2006. Coach Leonid Yelin's squad, coming off the successful 2005 schedule that saw the Cardinals advance to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen and a school record high ranking of No. 6, have a challenging non-conference schedule ahead.
Eight opponents advanced to the NCAA Tournament including 2005 Final Four participants Tennessee and Nebraska and 2003 and 2004 Final Four participant Minnesota on tap. The Cardinals will host Cincinnati, Notre Dame, South Florida, Georgetown, Rutgers and Villanova in BIG EAST Play.
"This is the toughest non-conference schedule we have ever had," said Yelin. "With four freshmen coming in it will help them to develop quickly as they play the top teams in the nation."
The Cardinals will host two early season tournaments. The first will feature UM-Kansas City, coached by former U of L assistant Steve Dallman. Jacksonville State coached by former U of L assistant Rick Nold and Jacksonville will join the action.
On Labor Day weekend, U of L will host the Courtyard by Marriott Airport East Classic with Dayton and Arizona joining the Cardinals in Cardinal Arena. After the BIG EAST Tournament, which will be held in Cincinnati, U of L will host Ohio, Marshall and Notre Dame after Thanksgiving and before the NCAA pairings. U of L will play Marshall and Ohio.
