University of Louisville volleyball recruit, Lecia Brown, qualified for the International Sanofi-Aventis International BioGENEious Challenge after winning the Southeastern US Regional BioGENEious High School Science Contest.
Brown, who signed a national letter-of-intent to continue her volleyball career at U of L, presented her research on how to inhibit the release of the asthma-causing IgE hormone by using RG513 and CREB proteins in the cell. She based her project on the research she did last summer at the National Institute of Health in Maryland.
The BioGENEious Challenge is an annual competition for high school students that recognizes outstanding research in biotechnology. Each year, regional winners from the United States and Canada are invited to compete in the international competition and present their projects to a panel of judges comprised of the leading scientists and educators in the biotechnology field.
