The University of Louisville men's tennis team completed play at the 2006 Louisville Fall Invitational Sunday. The doubles team of Morten Sivertsen and Tim Barnoud was edged by Marquette's Greg Sirotek and Tomek Czernuszewicz 9-8(5) in the semifinals of the flight `C' draw.
"I was especially pleased with the way Morten Sivertsen played this weekend," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "He really came to play this weekend and turned in his best results of the fall season. He and several of our young players will be vying for a lot of open spots if we continue to see these types of results."
In other Louisville Fall Invitational results, Butler's James Low defeated Iowa's Bart Van Monsjou 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 in the finals of Flight `A' singles. Iowa's Tommy McGeorge topped Butler's Eric Breitenbach to claim the Flight `B' singles title. And in the third Iowa/Butler singles matchup of the day, the Hawkeyes' Scott Elwell beat Butler's Scott Newmark 7-5, 6-0 in the Flight `C' championship match.
Iowa's Van Monsjou and J.P. Ritchie teamed to defeat Butler's Breitenbach and Sandy Berry 8-1 in the Flight `A' doubles championship. Cleveland State's Ryan Hamning and Phil Orno outlasted Butler's Evan West and Scott Newmark 9-8(6) in the `B' title match. In the `C' flight, Iowa's Elwell and Reinoud Haal topped 8-4 to claim the championship.
In singles consolation action, Cleveland State's Orno edged Eastern Illinois' Chuck Levaque 7-6 (7-0), 4-6, 10-2 in the final match of the `A' consolations. Iowa's Dwyer topped Cleveland State's Ryan Hamning 6-1, 6-2 in the `B' finals. Xavier's Brian Schubert posted a 6-4, 6-0 win over Marquette's Czernuszewicz in the `C' consolations.
