LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville baseball team will cap its fall season on Thursday, Oct. 5 with a nine-inning intra-squad scrimmage at Jim Patterson Stadium. First pitch of the inaugural Pizza Bowl will take place at 3:30 p.m. and it will be free and open to the public.
Dan McDonnell, who is in his first season as head coach of the Cardinals, took over the team on June 27 as the 18th head coach in U of L baseball history.
The team held a draft to determine the squads. Volunteer assistant Xan Barksdale will be coaching the black team - Xan's Zephyrs and they will be opposing the red team - Haley's Comets which will be coached by student assistant Nick Haley.
The game will mark the end of the fall workouts which began the first week of September.
It is expected that junior Zack Pitts will start for the Zephyr's and will face fellow junior Jake Smith who will take the hill for the Comets.
The team will take batting practice and infield prior to the game, when the gates open at 2:00 p.m.
Louisville returns 17 letterwinners and seven starters from a team that finished third in their first season in the BIG EAST, and advanced to the title game of the BIG EAST Championships last season.
