The 26th-ranked University of Louisville doubles team of Slavko Radman and Damar Johnson has earned a top-seeding in the ITA Midwest Region Championships. The team of Robert Rotaru and David Simon will also compete in doubles while Johnson, Rotaru, Simon Radman and Chris Herrlinger will participate in the singles draw. The tournament will take place Oct. 29-24 in Minneapolis, Minn. The singles finalists and doubles champion will earn spots in the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, Nov. 2-5, at Ohio State University.
"It is a great honor for Damar and Slavko as well as our program to receive a number one seed in this tournament," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "This region is arguably known as one of the top doubles regions in the country and to receive a top seed is a real compliment. Now we need to backup the seeding. The guys are ready to go and we expect a good performance in our first visit to the University of Minnesota. This is a prestigious tournament and the winner qualifies for national indoor champs in November and that is our ultimate goal."
Radman and Johnson will play Illinois' Billy Heiser and Mark Spicijaric Friday at 4 p.m. ET. Rotaru and Simon will take on Bradley's Matt Metully and Evgeny Samolov Friday at 5:30 p.m.
Main draw singles will begin on Saturday, Oct. 21. Johnson will play Northern Illinois' Brian Livingston at 8 a.m. Radman, seeded fifth in singles will take on Wisconsin's Felipe Bellido at 9:30 am.
