The University of Louisville's Adrienne White and Meghan Little finished tied at 24th and tied at 51st respectively in the NCAA East Regional Championship on Saturday afternoon at the Gainesville Country Club. White finished just two spots from qualifying for the NCAA Championship in Corvallis, Oregon. The top eight teams from the regional and the top two individual players advanced to the championship today, White was the fourth top individual.
White, a sophomore, started on the back nine and struggled a bit before coming back on the front nine. On hole six White moved her mark for a player and then forgot to put her mark back. She remembered after finishing her put, and called for a rules official. The ruling cost her a two-stroke penalty. She finished the day shooting a 75, including the two stroke penalty. White finished the championship tied at 24th with a score of 222.
"Adrienne has the utmost integrity," said head coach Kelly Meyers. "She did the honorable thing. No one knew that she had done it and she called it on herself. She has worked so hard this year and I am so proud of her. I cannot say enough about Adrienne's character. She came back like a champion on the last three holes."
Little, a senior, finished the day with a score of 77. She finished her final collegiate tournament with a score of 229.
"Meghan is a remarkable student-athlete," said head coach Kelly Meyers. "She accomplished so many things in her four years as a player and she has left some an impressive mark at the University of Lousville. She left some big shoes to fill next year."
Duke's Anna Grzebien took medalist honors with a score of 209. Ohio State won the regional with a score of 856. Duke finished second with a score of 862 and Furman finished third with a 871.
