
Softball Sweeps Morehead State Doubleheader

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The University of Louisville softball team swept visiting Morehead State 8-0 and 10-0 in five inning games Wednesday at Ulmer Stadium.
In the opening game, the Cards jumped ahead in the bottom of the first when Audrey Rendon was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a walk by Candi Hicks. Courtney Moore's double down the right field line scored Rendon and moved Hicks to third placing runners at second and third with no outs. Hicks scored on a wild pitch and Moore advanced to third to set up Lisa Estes' two run shot to left giving the Cardinals a 4-0 lead.
Louisville added three more runs in the bottom of the second when Hicks hit a two out single and stole second. Moore's fielder's choice moved Hicks to third. Moore stole second placing runners at second and third with two outs. Lacy Wood's double to center scored Hicks and Moore. Wood crossed the plate on Michelle Vasquez's base hit up the middle to make the game 7-0.
U of L posted one more run in the bottom of the fourth when Rendon reached first on an Eagles error and stole second. A single by Hicks advanced Rendon to third and Hicks moved to second on the throw. Moore's single to right sent Rendon home increasing their lead 8-0. Morehead State reliever Jacque Jackson retired the next two batters to end the inning.
Louisville starter Catherine Bishop (15-7) picked up her eighth shutout of the season allowing only one hit and striking out seven in five innings. Offensively, the Cards had nine hits in the contest. Hicks went 2 for 2 with two runs. Moore went 2 for 3 with two runs and two RBI.
Eagles' starter Kari Quinn (4-13) took the loss allowing seven earned runs, seven hits and striking out two in two innings.
In the nightcap, the Cardinals jumped to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second when Wood led off with a single, moved to second on Alma Navarrete's hit and crossed the plate on hit by Christine Bartle.
Louisville added eight runs in the third. Sara Bausher led off with a single. Rendon followed with an infield hit and Bausher moved to third when the Eagles commited an error on the play. Hicks reached on a fielder's choice, which scored Bausher. Rendon crossed the plate when Moore reached on another Eagle error. Wood's double sent Hicks and Moore home to make it a 5-0 game. Wood came home when Lisa Estes delivered a single and took second on an error. Navarrete base hit brought Estes home to increase the lead to 7-0. Bausher drew a walk and Rendon delivered an infield single to load the bases. Skye Miller registered a single which scored Estes and Bausher to make it a 9-0 game.
The Cards put up another run in the fourth when Lisa Estes doubled, took third on Amy Summer's flyout to right field and scored on Navarrete's single for the 10-0 win.
Aja Sherman (13-9) picked up her tenth shutout of the season, allowing one hit and striking out 11 in five innings. Offensively, the Cards had 13 hits in the game. Navarrete was 3 for 3 with a run and two RBI. Estes was 2 for 3 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Rendon was 2 for 3 with a run and a stolen base.
Ashley Hubbell (2-6) took the loss, allowing seven runs, five earned on seven hits.
U of L (28-16) will travel to Eastern Kentucky for a single game on Thursday, April 21 at 3 p.m.
