
No. 6-ranked Volleyball Flattens Mountaineers

Junior Stephanie Marsh had 9 kills, two aces and five blocks to lead the No. 6-ranked University of Louisville to a 30-12, 30-15, 30-25 win over visiting West Virginia in BIG EAST Volleyball action Sunday afternoon at Cardinal Arena.
U of L pushed its record to 20-0 and 8-0 in the league with its 25th straight win in Cardinal Arena in front of a crowd of 947. West Virginia dropped to 14-10 and is now 2-7 in BIG EAST.
"The crowd was great and really sparked us in the third game when WVU got a little run going," said U of L head coach Leonid Yelin. "We distributed the ball well today and got a lot of playing time for everyone."
U of L held WVU to the lowest point total of the season in the first game when they used .556 hitting to hold the Mountaineers to 12 points. Ustymenko had four kills in five attacks to hit .800 in that set. U of L used a huge 17-3 run in the second game to build an insurmountable lead. U of L hitting stayed hot at .500 and Kara Hamilton came off the bench to notch five kills in five attacks with no errors. WVU used a 12-3 run late in the third game to pressure the Cardinals but after Yelin reinserted Ustymenko, U of L pushed to the 30-25 win. Marsh had two of the final four points to win the match.
U of L outblocked WVU 11.5 to 2.0 and outhit them .427 to .052. Rui Liu came off the bench to notch six kills and three blovks and freshman Nicole Bateman had nine kills, an ace, 12 digs and two blocks to help the Cardinal effort.
WVU was led by Julie Hockenson who had 10 kills and a block for West Virginia.
U of L travels to Notre Dame Oct. 29 for its sternest test of the season when they face No. 9 ranked Notre Dame in South Bend.
