BIRMINGHAM, AL - For the second time in as many matches, University of Louisville sophomore Jamie Craft broke a scoreless tie to vault the Cardinal women's soccer team to a 1-0 win in Conference USA play, as Louisville(7-2-0, 2-0-0) upended defending C-USA champion UAB(4-4-1, 1-1-0) Sunday.
""We are tremendously excited about this win over a very talented UAB team," said Cardinal Head Coach Karen Ferguson.
Craft, who now has nine goals in nine games-a career-high, took a feed from senior Lisa Martin and buried it in the 85th minute for the Cardinal win.
"This was a total team effort, and again we looked for a spark from our bench and got it," Ferguson added.
Senior keeper Meredith Miller notched her third shutout on the season in as many starts, making eight saves on the afternoon. She adds to her school record with her 11th career shutout and establishes a new record for minutes played with 4,652, eclipsing the mark established by Kathy Klope('91-94).
Louisville had an 8-3 edge in shots in the opening stanza, and held an 18-16 edge for the game.
Monique Gjini had seven shots to lead the Cardinals, while Craft had three. Amy Seng, Jen Avila and Hollie Minogue each had two shots.
Louisville is now 5-0 on the road this season, and off to a 2-0 start in C-USA play for the second time in school history, matching the 1997 Cards. The seven wins on the season matches last season's win total.
U of L will host Tulane on Friday in Cardinal Park at 7:00 p.m., and Southern Miss at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free.
