Three University of Louisville men's tennis players have earned spots in the March 9 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Rankings. The doubles team of Matt Mayer and Jeremy Clark are No. 29, while Damar Johnson is No. 90 in singles.
Mayer, a senior from Houston, Texas, and Clark, a sophomore from Stanville, Ky., currently have an 11-5 doubles record and are 8-4 in dual matches.
Johnson, a freshman from Ocho Rios, Jamaica, is 12-7 overall and 9-4 in dual matches. He earned Conference USA Player of the Week honors on Feb. 4.
"Matt Mayer and Jeremy Clark were a doubles experiment that worked and are now one of the top 30 doubles teams in the nation. They have only played as a doubles team for half of a semester and have already accomplished more than some teams who have played four years. I am extremely proud of them. I am also ecstatic for Damar Johnson, to come in as a freshman and compete at such a high-level of tennis is an amazing accomplishment. I have said from the beginning that he is one of the top freshmen in Conference USA and among the top in the country."
The Cardinals (8-6) will travel to Montgomery, Ala., to compete in the Blue-Gray National Invitation March 11-14. U of L, No. 55 in the ITA team rankings will play No. 21 North Carolina Thursday, March 11 at 2:30 p.m.
