Softball Falls to No. 12 Michigan 4-2

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The University of Louisville softball team lost to No. 12 Michigan 4-2 Sunday in the Louisville Courtyard Marriott East Tournament at Ulmer Stadium.
The Wolverines jumped to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Tiffany Haas singled, moved to second when Jennifer Olds drew a walk and scored on Jessica Merchant's base hit.
The Cardinals answered in the bottom half of the first as Audrey Rendon doubled, moved to third on Courtney Moore's hit and scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 1-1.
U of L took a 2-1 lead in the third when Lacy Wood singled and scored on a double by Lisa Estes.
Michigan put up three runs in the fourth to take a 4-2 lead. Tiffany Worthy singled to lead off the inning and Stephanie Bercaw entered the game as pinch runner. Courtney Betley's sacrifice bunt moved Bercaw to second. She moved to third on a groundout by Meghan Doe and came home on a double by Monica Schock to tie the game at 2-2. Haas reached on a Louisville error and stole second. Another Cardinal error allowed Schock and Haas to score, making it a 4-2 game. Neither team had a runner in scoring position the rest of the game.
Louisville reliever Catherine Bishop (6-4) took the loss, allowing two unearned runs on two hits and striking out four in four innings. Offensively, the Cardinals had five hits.
Michigan starter Jennie Ritter (8-3) got the complete game win, allowing two earned runs on five hits and striking out seven.
U of L (21-8) will travel to Lexington to take on the University of Kentucky on Wednesday, March 24 in a doubleheader starting at 4:00 p.m.
NOTE - The final game of the tournament, featuring a U of L - Eastern Kentucky matchup was cancelled due to cold weather. The game will be rescheduled at a later date.
