Softball Shuts Out Toledo

The University of Louisville posted a 5-0 shut out of Toledo in the first game of the Louisville Courtyard Marriott East Tournament at Ulmer Stadium Friday afternoon.
Freshman starter Kady Garrick threw a complete game win, giving up only three hits, struck out six and walked only one. Garrick improved her record to 11-3. Toledo starter Kim Pettit took the loss and fell to 1-7 for the season. She pitched four innings and gave up five runs, all earned, off of nine hits.
Both pitchers held their opponents scoreless for the first three innings. Louisville struck first, posting a two-spot in the fourth. Lacy Wood led off with a single and then scored on a triple by Kristi Rozelle. A double by Jenn Skaggs scored Rozelle for her RBI.
The Cardinals scored three more in the fifth, when Shannon Nord, Michelle Vasquez both reached on singles. Moore's triple scored two. Moore then crossed the plate on a single by Wood.
Offensively, the Cards had 11 hits in the game. Skaggs went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Wood, Vasquez and Nord also had two hits each in the contest.
