University of Louisville's Slavko Radman was named Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Month for October.
The Kastel Stari, Croatia native joined the Cardinals in 2004 as a sophomore transfer from South Carolina State. Radman went 5-0 in singles to win the "A" flight of the Louisville Invitational, defeating Illinois' Evan Zeder, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) in the final match. He combined with senior Mark Kennedy to advance to the quarterfinals of the event, where they were outlasted in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (11-9), by Southern Indiana's Jarrod and Tony Epkey. Radman also competed at the ITA Midwest Regional in singles and doubles. He and junior Jeremy Clark advanced to the round of 16 of the main draw with 8-2 win over R.K. Bakalla and Alex Birchmeier of Western Michigan. Radman currently has compiled the team's best singles record at 5-1.
"I am very happy to see that Conference USA has recognized the outstanding effort of our new transfer Slavko Radman," said head coach Rex Ecarma. "We feel like he is just at the beginning of his developmental curve and could really do some special things at the University of Louisville. Slavko is a great young man with wonderful personality and a 130 mph serve. Standing at 6'7, he's bigger than the average tennis player, one of the main things we're trying to do is work on his agility, mobility and speed. We've got two of the top sophomores in C-USA in Slavko Radman and Damar Johnson. Both of whom are great representatives of the University of Louisville and Conference USA."
The Cardinals will open the 2005 spring season when they play Wright State and Murray State on January 14 at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. U of L finished the 2003-04 season with a 19-9 record and an NCAA regional appearance. The Cardinals were No. 40 in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings.
