Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's soccer team shutout DePaul 1-0 Saturday evening in Cardinal Park. The Cardinals improve to 4-4-3 overall and 1-1-1 in Conference USA play.
"It was a game of two halves," said head coach Tony Colavecchia. "We played an exceptional first half. We just can't seem to play too good 45 minutes together. But a win is a win in Conference USA. DePaul played an exceptional second half. This is one of the best DePaul teams I have seen. I was well pleased with the shutout. Tim Velten did a good job for us moving from the back to the midfield. Once again Guzman continues to be a consistent threat for us. I thought that Michael Baughn made a valuable contribution tonight in his first start of the season."
Louisville sophomore Marco Terminesi crossed the ball to freshman David Guzman for the game-winner in the 42nd minute of play. The goal was the third of the season for the freshman.
The Cardinal defense was able to hold off an aggressive DePaul team in the second half. The Blue Demons outshot the Cardinals 8-1 in the half and Cardinal keeper Tyler Wilcox came up with four big saves. Wilcox finished the game with five saves.
The Cardinals will travel to Columbus, Ohio on Wednesday, Oct. 13 to face Ohio State at 7:00 p.m.
