
First day of Louisville Fall Invitational Concludes

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - Sophomore Slavko Radman and freshman Nicolas Houard advanced to the Flight `A' singles quarterfinals as the University of Louisville men's tennis team completed the first day of the Louisville Fall Invitational at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
Radman opened singles play with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Wright State's Quincy Jones and defeated Iowa's J.P. Ritchie 6-3, 7-5 to set up Saturday's quarterfinal match with Morehead State's Greg Johnstone.
Houard beat Tom Murphy of Dayton 6-3, 6-1 and then topped Morehead State's Kim Kachel 6-2, 6-4. Houard will face Kentucky's Matt Emery in Saturday's quarterfinal match.
"The Louisville debut of Slavko Radman and Nicolas Houard was extremely successful," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "They are playing the type of tennis I had hoped for when I recruited them. This is the type of day in which they showed they can definitely help the team this season."
Also in the flight `A' singles, Louisville sophomore Stefan Naughton lost to Southern Indiana's Joe Epkey 7-5, 7-5 and defeated UT-Martin's Gustavo Anzola 8-4 in the consolation draw. He will face Wright State's Craig Smith Saturday in the quarterfinals of the `A' consolation bracket.
U of L senior Mark Kennedy edged UT-Martin's Danny McGuire 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(8-6) in `B' singles, but fell to Adam Storti of Morehead State 7-5, 6-2 in the second round.
Freshman Pablo Camacho posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over Dayton's Brennan Baumann in the first round of the `C' singles. He then fell to Bradley's Alex Roby 6-3, 6-1 in the second round.
In doubles action, the team of Radman and Kennedy defeated Dayton's Murphy and James O'Connell 8-3 in the first round of the `A' flight. They will face Tony Epkey and Jarrod Epkey of Southern Indiana in Saturday's quarterfinal match.
In flight `B' doubles, the team of Camacho and Naughton was edged by Southern Illinois' Alex Nomicos and Lukasz Soswa 9-7.
The Louisville Fall Invitational will continue Saturday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. Doubles play will begin at 9:00 a.m. with main draw singles starting at 10:00 a.m.
