
Charlotte Hands Men's Soccer a 2-0 Shutout

Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville (4-6-4, 1-3-1) men's soccer team suffered its second straight shutout, falling 2-0 to Charlotte (8-4-1, 4-4-0) on Wednesday evening in Cardinal Park. It was the third consecutive game the Cardinals have not scored a goal.
In the 24th minute of play, a Cardinal defender kicked the ball in the backfield and Charlotte's Mira Mupier ran onto the ball and eluded Cardinal keeper Charles Edwards for the first score of the game. After the goal the 49ers offense kicked into gear. Charlotte finished the first half outshooting the Cardinals 9-4 and Edwards finished the half with three saves.
The Cardinal offense came out strong to start the second half. Louisville had several chances to score but could not finish. Charlotte secured the lead in the 65th minute of play when Adam Ruud took a cross from Pete Palomino to put the 49ers up 2-0.
The Cards' best chance came in the 70th minute when freshman midfielder Anthony Celebre's shot hit the cross bar and ricocheted out of the goal. Louisville finished the second half with a 10-5 shot advantage over Charlotte. Charlotte's keeper Josh Beachem finished the game with six saves while Edwards finished with three.
Louisville will travel to Greenville, N.C. to face East Carolina Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
