CINCINNATI, OHIO - Sophomore Lauren Podvin's sixth goal of the season fifteen minutes into the match stood as the only tally of the match, as the University of Louisville women's soccer team blanked Cincinnati 1-0 Sunday.
"I am really proud of our overall team effort in a very tough environment," stated U of L Head Coach Karen Ferguson.
Again the Cards controlled play and dominated the numbers in the scorebook, outshooting the Bearcats 19-7, with 11 of Louisville's shots on goal to UC's two. The Cards(11-3-1, 5-1-1) also had 11 corner kicks to just three for the Cats(4-10-0, 1-4-0).
The Louisville goal, at 14:49 came off a set piece on a corner on which freshman Monique Gjini fed Podvin for the goal.
"That was a great goal on a well executed set piece, and it was nice to see Lauren put one in the back of the net and shake this mini-slump of hers," said Ferguson.
Podvin and Gjini are second on the team with six goals apiece, while Gjini shares the season assist lead with senior Mandy Rost with four each.
UC keeper Sherry Slye kept the score close with 10 saves in the match, including nine in the second half.
Louisville keeper Meredith Miller continues to add to her career(15.0) and single season(7.0) shutout records, while the Cards extend its single season record total nine. Louisville has allowed just two goals in the last eight games, with seven of those being shutouts.
The 11 wins on the season ties the school record, set in 1993 when the Cards were 11-7-0.
The Cards are currently in second place in the Conference USA standings behind Saint Louis.
Louisville has three matches remaining in the regular season, all at home, beginning Friday when they host Charlotte at 6:00 p.m. in Cardinal Park.
