
Men's Tennis Set for C-USA Tournament

The University of Louisville men's tennis team earned a No. 4 seed and a first-round bye in the 2003 Conference USA Men's Tennis Championship in Milwaukee, Wisc. The Cardinals (18-6) will play the winner of sixth-seeded Southern Miss and host eleventh-seeded Marquette Thursday, April 17 at 1 p.m.
"The conference has rewarded us for on outstanding regular season with one of the top four seed and a first day bye," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "That is really important because stamina and endurance are the main aspects of winning a conference championship. We believe the draw will help us, but we need to play our best tennis of the season to win."
The Cardinals are led at the top seed by Cody Conley (18-15 overall, 17-5 dual matches). Senior Paulo Carvalho steps in at the No. 2 slot with a 23-11 record (12-9 dual). Both Conley and Carvalho were members of the 2000 Conference USA Champion and NCAA participant team.
Sophomore Octavian Nicodim, the Cardinals' No. 3 player has compiled a 21-10 record and is 13-6 in the spring. The No. 4 spot belongs to junior Matt Mayer who boasts a 25-11 record and is 18-5 in dual matches. Freshman sensation Jhonny Berrido has the team's best singles record at 32-7 (19-3 dual) and will see action at No. 5. Senior Harry Walsh rounds out the singles lineup at No. 6 with a 23-11 overall record (14-6 dual).
