
Softball Splits Saint Louis Doubleheader

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The University of Louisville softball team lost to Conference USA foe Saint Louis 3-1 and won the second game 9-0 in five innings Saturday at Ulmer Stadium.
In the first game, the Cardinals got on the scoreboard in the second inning when Sara Bausher reached on an error, moved to second on Keola Calderon's sacrifice bunt. A single off the bat of Lisa McMillan sent Bausher home to give U of L a 1-0 lead.
The Billikens responded in the sixth when Nicole Bohnenstiehl reached on a Louisville miscue. Beth Puttcamp, pinch running for Bohnenstiehl, advanced to second on a hit by Beth Yagge and scored on AshLeigh Williams' single to tie the game at 1-1.
Saint Louis pulled ahead in the seventh when Adrienne May led off with a hit and moved to second when Cori Bittick reached on another Cardinal error. Ashlee Heady doubled to bring home May and Bittick, giving the Billikens the 3-1 win.
Louisville starter Krystle Herold (4-6) took the loss, allowing three unearned runs on seven hits in seven innings. Offensively, the Cardinals were led by McMillan who was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Bohnenstiehl (11-6), the starting pitcher for the Billikens, picked up the win, allowing one unearned run on four hits and striking out five in seven innings. Yagge was 2-for-3 in the game.
In the second game, U of L scored three runs in the second inning as Bausher led off with a walk, stole second and advanced to third when Calderon reached on a fielder's choice to set up McMillan's two-run double. Aja Sherman drew a walk and Shannon Nord beat out an infield single to load the bases. McMillan crossed the plate when Nicole Sparks drew a walk to make the score 3-0.
The Cardinals put up a four-spot in the third when Calderon and Lisa Estes delivered back-to-back singles to set up another two-run double by McMillan. Aja Sherman drew a walk and Lyndsey Jordan singled to load the bases. Nord's base hit brought McMillan home to increase the Louisville lead to 6-0. Sparks' sacrifice hit scored Sherman to make it a 7-0 game.
U of L added two more runs in the fourth when Bausher single and stole second. Calderon walked to set up McMillan's third two-run double of the contest and give the Cardinals a 9-0 lead.
Louisville starter Jessica Rak (10-7) posted her sixth shutout of the season, allowing three hits and striking out six in five innings. Offensively, the Cardinals had 10 hits. McMillan was 3-for-3 with three doubles, six RBI and two runs scored. Nord was also 3-for-3 with an RBI.
Saint Louis starter Kristin Rossi (3-5) took the loss, allowing seven earned runs on eight hits and striking out one in 2.1 innings.
Louisville (18-15, 9-4 C-USA) and Saint Louis (14-11, 7-9) will close out the series Sunday at noon at Ulmer Stadium.
