LOUISVILLE, Ky. - University of Louisville sophomore forward Francisco Garcia has been named The Sporting News and ESPN.com national Player of the Week, as well as Conference USA Player of the Week for games Dec. 7-13.
Garcia averaged 22.5 points, five rebounds, four assists, 2.5 steals and hit half of his three-point attempts in a pair of victories for Louisville. He matched a career scoring high with 24 points against Seton Hall, playing the day after he found out his younger brother Hector Lopez had been killed in New York. He returned home for for the memorial service and to visit his family on Thursday.
Garcia totalled 21 points, five rebounds, four assists, and a career-high four steals in the Cardinals' 73-65 victory over top-ranked Florida in the Billy Minardi Classic. Garcia was honored as the Most Outstanding Player of the Billy Minardi Classic.
