Volleyball Beats Billikens 3-1

Sonja Percan had 16 kills, four aces, 17 digs and two blocks to lead the University of Louisville to a 3-1 win over Saint Louis in Conference USA volleyball action Saturday night.
U of L moves to 15-4 and 8-1 in conference play with the 30-21, 30-24, 32-34, 30-21 win. Saint Louis now posts a record of 8-18, 1-8 in C-USA play before its biggest crowd ever at Bauman-Everheardt Center of 846.
In the first game, U of L led by only two at 20-18 when Saint Louis' Alexis Cooley connected for a kill. After trading points, the Cardinals reeled off nine of the final 10 points of the game. The Cardinals had four blocks and three aces to help the cause. Benny Flynn led the Cardinals in the first set with four kills on five swings and no errors.
After trailing 8-7, U of L went on a 9-2 run in the second game. The Cardinals did not let the Billikens get any closer than four in the final going. Saint Louis did make U of L nervous enough after the Cradinals reached game point for Leonid Yelin to call time out after SLU scored three straight points. A Lena Ustymenko kill sealed the game for the Cardinals.
In the third game, U of L could not shake the Billikens. Saint Louis tied at 27 on a Louisville hitting error and then got to game point on an ace by Megan Sorich. Louisville scored the next point on a Billiken miscue and the teams traded points to tie at 30, 31 and 32. Saint Louis won on an Ustymenko service error and an attack that went long for the Cardinals. The Billikens' hitting improved to .346 in the third set and they had three aces.
In the final game, U of L used a four point spurt to go up 19-12 on the Billikens and then never looked back. U of L hit .439 in the game to Saint Louis' .237.
U of L had four players with double digit kills with Benny Flynn adding 14 and Ustymenko and Bing Sun adding 16 and 15 kills respectively.
Kayla Kmitta led Saint Louis with 18.
