
Men's Soccer Sweeps Top League Honors

Memphis, Tenn. - University of Louisville senior forward Simon Bird was named Conference USA Player of the Year and senior sweeper Adrian Cann was named Conference USA Co-Defensive Player of the Year. Bird becomes the first Cardinal player to garner this accolade. He is the league's second-leading goal scorer with 12 goals this season and he ranks third all-time with 29 career goals. A preseason all-conference selection, Bird led Louisville to an 11-6-3 overall record and a 5-2-2 C-USA mark.
Cann, the preseason Conference USA Player of the Year, was named Co-Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. Cann helped the Cardinal defense to seven shutouts on the season. He becomes the only player in school history to become a first team All-Conference USA selection for four consecutive seasons.
Joining Bird and Cann on the first team is sophomore keeper Brad Sokolowski. Sokolowski leads the league with a goals against average of 0.86 and 54 saves. Sophomore Matt Neely earned third team All-Conference USA honors. Neely has started in the Cardinal backfield the last two seasons and has helped the Cardinals to eight shutouts on the season.
Rounding out the Cardinal award winners is freshman Marco Terminesi. Terminesi was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman team. He is second on the team in scoring with four goals and six assists.
The Cardinals will play the No. 24 UAB Blazers tomorrow night at 8:30 p.m. in the first round of the Conference USA Tournament in Memphis, Tenn. Cann will return to the Cardinal lineup after sitting out the last five games.
