
Men's Tennis Heads to Midwest Regional

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The University of Louisville men's tennis team will travel to East Lansing, Mich., to compete in the 2003 Omni Orrington Midwest Regional Oct. 23-28. In addition to the Cardinals, players from Ball State, Bradley, Chicago State, Dayton, DePaul, Eastern Illinois, Illinois, Illinois-Chicago, Indiana, Indiana State, Iowa, IUPU-Ft. Wayne, IUPUI, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Marquette, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northern Illinois, Ohio State, Purdue, Toledo, Valparaiso, Western Illinois, Western Michigan, Wisconsin, Wisconsin-Green Bay, Xavier.
Senior Matt Mayer and junior Octavian Nicodim will represent U of L in the main draw while freshmen Jonathan Howard and Damar Johnson, sophomores Jhonny Berrido, Jeremy Clark and Jakob Gustafsson will compete in the qualifying draw.
"I am gratified about the respect the Midwest tennis committee has shown our tennis program," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "Each team in the six state region is guaranteed one singles and one doubles team. This gives our entire roster an opportunity for regional and national rankings. I am also happy that the doubles team of Octavian Nicodim and Matt Mayer earned a nine-seed and that Nicodim was seeded 17th in the singles main draw."
