LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- University of Louisville men's tennis coach Rex Ecarma has announced that Jakub Gustaffsson and Jhonny Berrido have signed their National Letters-of-Intent to continue their tennis careers at U of L.
Gustaffson, a native of Hollviken, Sweden, is ranked among the top 10 juniors players in Sweden. "Jakub is the big attacker that I was looking for," said Ecarma. "He is an aggressive 6-6 player who was recruited heavily by several of the nation's top programs. We were fortunate enough to sign him. He is coached by Dave Bandelin who is well-respected. I know he will be prepared to play at U of L and elite college tennis."
Berrido, a native of LaVega, Dominican Republic, has been ranked as high as 78 in the world in juniors. "I consider Jhonny to be one of the best players from the Carribbean," said Ecarma. "He has played the the top juniors tournaments in the world: the Orange Bowl, Eddie Herr, the Prince Cup and the Argentina Bowl, to name a few. He has a tremendous amount of high-level experience. I expect him to be one of the impact players in the conference."
Louisville (12-16) closed out the 2002 season ranked No. 50 in the Omni Hotel Intercollegiate Tennis Association ranking, and took a third place finish in the Conference USA Men's Tennis Championship.
