Softball Drops East Carolina 3-2

TAMPA, Fla.. - The University of Louisville softball team defeated East Carolina 3-2 Friday on the second day of the 2002 Conference USA Softball Championship hosted by South Florida.
The Cardinals scored all of their runs in the first inning as Kenzie Meisenburg led off the game with a base hit, moved to second on a single by Nicole Sparks and took third when Keola Calderon walked to load the bases. Meisenburg crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Lisa Estes. Aja Sherman's two-run single made the score 3-0.
The Pirates struck back in the bottom of the sixth when Ashley Dempsey single, moved to second on Kristin Johnson's hit and scored on a double by Amber Gill, who moved to third on the throw. Gill scored when Dany'ele Hill reached safely on a Louisville error to pull ECU within 3-2.
Louisville starter Krystle Herold (4-9) picked up the win, allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits in seven innings. Offensively, the Cards had six hits. Sherman, who had the game-winning hit, finished 1-for-3 with two RBI.
U of L (27-27) will face the winner of the Southern Miss/South Florida game at 6:00 p.m.
